Pemberton located 36
kilometers northwest of Whistler, is a bedroom community for some employees
of Whistler who either can't afford the cost of housing in Whistler or those
who like the slower pace of life in Pemberton. Some market
observers point to what they believe might be an emerging trend involving
more affluent households selling out in Whistler and moving to Pemberton.
they are doing this because Pemberton is much quieter but still only a 25
minute drive from Whistler. Another reason that some buyers may prefer
Pemberton is that land use restrictions can be less onerous than in
Whistler.
Pemberton has a
population of 1,353 (1999 estimate from BC stats) This number has grown
since than. Due to the small population base stats and analysis on the
internet are hard to come by.
In a research report
titled "The Whistler Housing Market" by a regional economist from
the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation some mention that in the event
the Olympics come to Whistler, it is likely that the impact of the
Winter Olympics would be more significant for Squamish and Pemberton than
for Whistler. Whistler is already very well known on the world stage, unlike
either Squamish or Pemberton.
