Regina
Teodoro and her family hosted a party in the Philippines to celebrate the
special occasion.
We read recently in "Asian Godfathers"
that the Araneta's were involved in Mining but we stand corrected.
"The Aranetas grandfather made his
name as a lawyer.
In the very first government of the
Philippines after Spain he was the Secretary of Finance and Justice and
later on under the Americans, Secretary of Justice.
He was friends with US President William
Howard Taft, who at one point served as Governor General in the Phils.
He made his money as Administrator to the
estate of a wealthy cousin who was executed by the Spaniards for sedition.
Interesting that "mining" was mentioned. As that is but an aside.
Grandfather was one of the first who
invested in Mines (and played the mines in the early "stock
exchange") .
Old man and his sons made a name in the
legal world, real estate, government service and business. But to say
mining, is a stretch."
