Hong
Kong: The New wave
Andrea
Eng, a second generation Chinese-Canadian regarded as Vancouver’s
most successful real estate agent [ in 1988 she sold $195
million worth of property, 70% to HK buyer ], attributes the fact that
the city is changing more rapidly than other Canadian cities:
“When things happen too quickly, people feel threatened.”

Immigrants
cause price controversy
Andrea
Eng specializes in dealing with Asian investors.
She says Canada has gone out of its way to court Asian
investment and the strategy is paying off.
She is convinced the backlash shall be short-lived and the
benefits of such investment will soon become apparent.
She predicts that it will quickly spread into other areas such
as manufacturing to take advantage of the free-trade agreement between
Canada and the US.

Women
of Distinction Nomination |
" It
can be said of Andrea Eng that she has managed, with great success, to
wear two cultural hats. She
has achieved distinction and prominence as a highly energetic,
high-powered commercial real estate broker.
She’s and associate vice president with BC’s oldest real
estate company. She has
been the only woman salesperson in a commercial industrial real estate
brokerage firm with a sales staff of more than 200 corporately.
In 1988, she rated fifth overall in production nationally and
more than $195 million worth of Vancouver real estate.
She is a writer of published papers, a featured speaker to
national and international groups and the subject of numerous magazine
cover stories. Her
volunteer positions include National Vice President of the Hong Kong
Canada business Association and Vice President and President Designate
of the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Garden

"Supersaleswoman
Andrea Eng (she’s sold more than $40 million worth of condos,
plazas, offices and all last year) watched amateurs at play.
She is sensational looking, as she is smart at the dynamics of
buyer/seller matches. Don’t
you just hate that beauty/brains combo, Barbie?

Hong
Kong Connections Profile
Andrea
Eng is another real estate front-runner, a former Miss Vancouver and
first runner-up in the Miss Canada competition – but her ageless
beauty is not what fires her deals.
She is strong-minded (critics prefer the term ‘pushy’),
focused, savvy and works long and hard.
She has been instrumental in promoting a healthy Asia Pacific
relationship by fostering interests in such cross-cultural events such
as Hong Kong Week (including the Dragon Boat Races) and Vancouver Week
in Hong Kong. Andrea is
the recently-appointed national vice-president of the Hong Kong-Canada
Business Association, a new board member with the Vancouver Board of
Trade, and was just made associate vice-president at Colliers Macaulay
Nicolls. Andrea has
become such an important link that she has had to prepare a written
summary of pointers culled from her frequent lectures on the subject,
designed to help westerners avoid embarrassing gaffes whey they first
visit Asia.
She also helps Oriental newcomers with advice:
“Assimilating and getting involved is important for new
immigrants. The first
thing they have to do is get comfortable in their new environment.
They have to overcome their shyness and language barriers.
Then it’s important to get involved in community and cultural
events, as well as business.”
